1989- Fledgling singer/songwriter Joe McCarthy forms band with fellow Central Michigan University student Cliff Brown. On a whim, they decide to call it The Dopes. Play in and around campus area. 

1991- On another whim, the duo moves to the Grand Traverse area, place rhythm section want ad and wait patiently. 

1992- Bass player Roy Truax answers above mentioned want ad. Drummer Travis Harrett soon follows suite. 

1993- To the delight of some and bemusement of many, The Dopes become a popular draw in clubs, at festivals, and on more than a few college campuses. 

1994- The debut CD Cow is recorded in Traverse City Michigan. It goes on to sell more than 5000 copies over the next 18 months. In this time, the bands popularity continues to grow. 

1997- My Ass Is A Dragon, the 2nd CD is recorded. Mark Camp, singer/songwriter/guitarist replaces Cliff Brown. Truax moves and is replaced by Willyam. 

1998- The new CD sells well through out the tri-state area. Willyam moves and is replaced by veteran bass player Kevin Gills. 

2000- Truax returns and resumes bass duties. The Dopes agree to record a new album for west coast indie label Jetspeed Records. The new CD is entitled Cloud Ten.
